The things people actually ask, answered plainly — including the ones where the honest answer is that something is not possible.
Why is there no 1080p or 4K?
Because Bluesky does not keep one. The platform re-encodes every upload to 360p and 720p, and the original is not served to anyone. Any site promising 4K from a Bluesky link is describing a file that does not exist.
Why does it take a few seconds instead of being instant?
Bluesky stores video as a run of short pieces rather than one file. Your browser has to fetch each piece and join them before there is an MP4 to hand you. A minute of video is usually about ten pieces.
Does the video go through your server?
No. Your browser talks to Bluesky directly for both the post details and the video itself. Images are the one exception — Bluesky's image CDN refuses cross-site requests, so an image passes through this server to reach you with a proper filename. It is streamed through and never stored.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
Free, with no account and no cap. Because the file is assembled on your own device rather than ours, there is nothing for us to meter.
Why are the file sizes only approximate?
The size shown is calculated from the video's bitrate and length before anything is downloaded. The finished file usually lands within a few percent of it. Image sizes are exact.
Can I download a private or deleted post?
No. This tool can only read what Bluesky already shows the public. A deleted post is gone, and a blocked or suspended account returns nothing.
What about GIFs?
Most GIFs on Bluesky are link cards pointing at Tenor, not uploads. There is no Bluesky file behind them, so there is nothing here to fetch. Video posted as video works normally.
Do you keep a record of what I download?
No. Nothing about which post you looked up is written down, because the lookup does not reach this server in the first place.
Is this affiliated with Bluesky?
No. This is an independent tool with no connection to Bluesky Social PBC.
